Arsenal kick away chance to sign world’s best MF: ‘Wenger’s exit will be regrettable’
Arsenal have reportedly turned down the chance to sign one of the world’s best-rated midfielders.
According to the UK’s Mirror, Federico Valverde underwent a trial with Real Madrid’s second team before joining Arsenal.
The Gunners were interested in signing Valverde and held a week-long trial. However, then-manager Arsène Wenger rejected the offer, and he headed to Real.
Valverde recalled his time at Arsenal’s trial. He recalls working with Alexis Sanchez.
“He was one of the few players who rolled up his sleeves to help me in training. I’ll always be grateful for that. He was an amazing player and influenced me a lot.”
Valverde, whose bid to join Arsenal fell through, came through the Real youth ranks. He broke into the first team in 2018. His versatility as a central midfielder, flanker, and defender earned him a spot in the first team.
Valverde’s form continued and he helped Real win the league and Champions League. With nine goals and seven assists this season, he remains a regular starter and is considered one of the best midfielders in the world.
Valverde also earned a spot on the Uruguayan national team and traveled to the World Cup in Qatar to face South Korea.
He earned the hatred of South Korean fans when he made a killer tackle on Lee Kang-In during the match.
Valverde’s position was expected to be in doubt ahead of the season. The arrival of Jude Bellingham heralded a fierce competition for places in the squad. 메이저놀이터
It was in this situation that he attracted interest from Liverpool. It was suggested that the Reds, who were in need of a squad overhaul, would be willing to accept an offer.
However, Valverde has declared his intention to stay, stating that he will “enjoy every moment at Real and try to leave my mark on the best team in the world.”
“I want to keep winning for the Real fans,” he said, again denying the transfer rumors.
Valverde has not been transferred and will remain at Real.
