Disappointing loss for DRX “We have a lot to learn… We will prepare hard for the Rold Cup”
After a drama-filled end to the regular season that saw them enter the playoffs but fail to take a set from their first opponent, Hanwha Life eSports, DRX has vowed to come back better than ever for the remainder of the season and prepare for the Rold Cup.
DRX lost to Hanwha Life 0-3 in the first game of the first round of the League of Legends Champions Korea Summer 2023 playoffs at Roll Park in Jongno-gu, Seoul on August 8.
The following is a post-match interview with head coach Kim “Mok-kyung” Kim and Kim “Rascal” Kwang-hee.
How did you feel after the match?
Coach Kim Mok-kyung: There were a lot of situations where we could have won, but I also felt that our opponents were more sophisticated than us and did a lot of things well, so it was a very disappointing game.
Kwanghee “Rascal” Kim: I think engagement was the most important thing in preparation for today’s match, and I think we didn’t engage well enough to win 토토사이트.
What did you pay special attention to for today’s match?
Kim Mok-kyung: We only had one day to prepare, so we talked a lot with the players and the coaching staff about how to improve on what we’ve been doing and maximize our bans against Hanwha Life. After watching the game, I think there were a lot of situations where we could have won the game if we had won one more engagement.
What was your biggest disappointment in today’s match?
Kim Mok-kyung: We had a lot of close games in every set, and there were a lot of situations where we set up for an objective engagement and were pushed back or caught by our opponent’s aim. Especially in the crucial object engagements, our opponent had a good field of vision, and we were in an uncomfortable situation.
If you had to change the game to win, what would it have been?
Kwanghee “Rascal” Kim: I think the thing that we lacked in our play today was that we didn’t make solid decisions in favorable situations, so we gave up spots or didn’t get good compositions. If we had the situation again, we would have been a little more decisive. Our opponent was also at a disadvantage, but I felt that their game plan was something that we need to learn from.
Now that you have to prepare for the Rold Cup, what do you need to work on?
First of all, I think I’m tired and not focused because I haven’t had enough rest lately, so I’ll start practicing with a hypothetical target of the second or third place in the playoffs after I get enough rest and regroup. Every time I prepare for the selection, I feel that it is not easy to find an opponent, so I think we should practice as much as possible with the teams preparing for the final next week to prepare.
Do you have any last words for us?
Coach Kim Mok-kyung: We had a lot of fans who came to see us, and I thought we could have done a better job, but I’m sorry that we lost. We will come back in better shape for the World Cup.
Kwang-hee ‘Rascal’ Kim: We finished the Spring Split in ninth place and had a moment in the Summer Split where we were 10th, but we kept improving and made the playoffs. We still have a chance to qualify for the all-important Rold Cup, so we’ll do our best in the remaining preparation period to show our growth and make it to the Rold Cup.
