30 American professional baseball major league (MLB) clubs released the detailed 2023 spring camp schedule on the 13th (Korean time).
MLB clubs’ spring camps will be held after the Korean national team’s spring camp call for the 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC).
Attention is drawn to the timing of overseas players such as Kim Ha-seong (28, San Diego Padres) joining the WBC spring camp.
The San Diego team will begin training for pitchers and catchers on February 15 at the Peoria Sports Complex in Arizona, USA, and fielders will join on February 20. The demonstration game will be digested from the 23rd.
Given the schedule, Kim Ha-seong is highly likely to join the WBC national team spring camp held at Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Arizona, USA.
The national team will convene in Tucson on the 14th of next month and hold training and practice matches until the 27th.
MLB clubs have decided to allow players selected from the WBC national team not to attend the spring camp, so there is no big problem in joining the national team camp.
However, Kim Ha-seong may belatedly join the national team training after participating in the San Diego team training.
When traded, things get complicated. Currently, many local media are reporting that Ha-seong Kim is receiving attention from teams that lack infield resources, such as the Boston Red Sox.
Tommy Hyun-soo Edman (28, St. Louis Cardinals) and Choi Ji-man (32, Pittsburgh Pirates), who have joined the Korean national team, are also expected to join the WBC camp after undergoing individual training.
Both St. Louis and Pittsburgh join beast camps on February 19th.
However, Choi Ji-man’s promotion to the WBC national team has not yet been confirmed. He transferred to Pittsburgh this winter and couldn’t even properly say hello to his teammates.
He could possibly join the national team while training at Pittsburgh spring camp.
An official from the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) said on the same day, 메이저놀이터 “The schedule for overseas players to join the WBC team training has not yet been set, and details are under discussion.”
The Toronto Blue Jays, a team belonging to Ryu Hyun-jin (36), will begin pitching and catcher training in Dunedin, Florida, USA on February 15, and field training on the 20th.
Ryu Hyun-jin left for the United States on December 29 last year and is concentrating on his elbow rehabilitation training.
