SON bench – ’22-year-old’ Lee Kang-in, Hyun-gyu to start against Klinsmann’s Peru

Captain Son Heung-min (Tottenham) is replaced by a ’22-year-old special’ attacking line-up of Lee Kang-in (Mallorca) and Oh Hyun-gyu (Celtic).

Jürgen Klinsmann’s men will take on South American dark horses Peru in a friendly at the Busan Asiad Stadium on 16 June. Klinsmann, who took charge of the national team in February, is yet to record his first win. The team played two matches against South American giants Colombia and Uruguay in March, drawing one and losing one. They drew 2-2 with Colombia and lost 1-2 to Uruguay. They will be looking for their first win against Peru.

The squad is not at 100 per cent strength. Monster defender Kim Min-jae (Napoli) was left out of the roster for basic military training, while veterans and established players such as Kwon Kyung-won (Gambaosaka) and Chung Woo-young (Alsad) are out with injuries. Midfielder Son Jun-ho (Shandong Taishan) was also not called up as he was detained and investigated by Chinese public security. The midfielder is suspected of bribing a non-state worker, which applies to those who illegally accept property from others in connection with their duties.

‘Captain’ Son Heung-min will also start the match on the bench as he continues to recover from sports hernia surgery. Klinsmann had announced in a press conference the day before that he would not start the game to protect the player.

The number of absentees is a blow. But it’s also an opportunity to try out new faces. On this occasion, it was the new faces who made the starting line-up. The ’22-year-old special’ Lee Kang-in and Oh Hyun-kyu, who have been outstanding in Europe this season, were also named in the starting line-up.

The formation is expected to be 4-4-2. Oh Hyun-gyu and Hwang Hee-chan (Wolverhampton) will be the two up top, while Hwang In-beom (Olympiacos) and Won Doo-jae (Ulsan Hyundai) will form the midfield. Lee Kang-in and Lee Jae-sung will also support the attack from the flanks. The back four will be Ahn Hyun-beom (Jeju United), Jung Seung-hyun (Ulsan Hyundai), Park Ji-soo (Portimonense) and Lee Ki-je (Suwon Samsung). With no centre-backs included in the March call-up list, Jung Seung-hyun and Park Ji-soo will share the centre-back duties. Ahn Hyun-beom, who earned his first call-up to the A squad after performing well in the K League, was given the honour of making his debut. Goalkeeper Kim Seung-kyu (Alsad) remained in goal 메이저사이트.

Meanwhile, it will be three years and six months since Busan played an A match in the E-1 Championship (East Asian Cup) in December 2019. Under former coach Paulo Bento, the national team won all three matches and claimed the title. South Korea’s head-to-head record against Peru is one draw and one loss. They lost 0-4 in an away friendly in 1971, while Hong Myung-bo’s side drew 0-0 in Suwon 10 years ago in August 2013.
