Sutton on ‘5-for-5 shooter + 4-for-4 leap’: “Catcher Sung-bin Son did a great job offensively”

The Lotte Giants avenged a previous day’s loss to the top-ranked LG Twins, improving their five-game winning percentage and jumping into sole possession of fourth place.

Lotte won the 11th game of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League against LG 7-4 on 9 September at Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan. They moved into sole possession of fourth place after the NC Dinos, who were tied for fourth, were swept by the last-place Samsung Lions. 토토사이트순위

Lotte’s starter Dan Straily struggled on the day, giving up four runs on seven hits and three walks in four innings, but the bullpen held on for the win.

At the plate, leadoff hitter Kim Min-seok paced the offence, going 3-for-5 with a home run, one RBI, one run scored and two stolen bases. The rest of the starting lineup followed suit, with Yoon Dong-hee going 1-for-2 with a double, a run and three RBIs, Jeon Jun-woo going 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run, Ahn Chi-hong going 2-for-4 with a double, Yoo Kang-nam going 1-for-4 with a double, a home run and an RBI, Son Sung-bin going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Hwang Sung-bin going 1-for-4 with a double.

The bullpen showed excellent crisis management skills at every juncture. Han Hyun-hee struck out Austin with runners on first and second in the top of the sixth inning with Lotte trailing 6-4 and got Park Dong-won to fly out to end LG’s rally.

Choi Jun-yong also pitched 1⅔ scoreless innings, Koo Seung-min ⅓ scoreless innings, and Kim Won-joong 1 scoreless inning to end LG’s resistance. The bullpen has been shaky since June, and this was a rare display of solid baseball.

“We didn’t play well the day before, but we bounced back to win as a team,” said Lotte manager Larry Sutton. “Starter Staley did his best, but the pitch count was high, so we made the decision to change him early. However, the bullpen did a good job until the ninth inning,” he said.

“On the offensive side, the batting line-up showed concentration in scoring chances and delivered strong hits to score extra runs,” he said. “Especially catcher Son Sung-bin, who threw out opposing runners with strong and accurate throws at crucial times. The batsmen also did a great job in the field, turning strong pitches into hits.”
