Texas makes a move…Mets in talks to sign Scherzer

The American League West-leading Texas Rangers are on the move.

Citing sources, Andy Martino, a reporter for New York-based sports organization SNY, reported on Tuesday (April 30) that Texas is in serious discussions with the New York Mets to trade Max Scherzer, 39.

The New York Post and other local media outlets later reported that the two clubs had agreed to a deal.

There is a hurdle to clear for this trade to actually happen. It’s the trade veto issue. 메이저사이트

Scherzer has the right to veto trades for his entire organization. The player’s consent is required for the trade to go through. The player is in control of the trade.

If he wants to move to Texas, this is easily solved, but if he doesn’t, it gets complicated.

Texas is a team he could be interested in. They’re in first place in the American League West with a 60-44 record as of Sept. 30, which puts them in position to make the postseason.

With 27 postseason starts under his belt, including helping the Washington Nationals win the World Series in 2019, Texas is a “winner’s team” and should be attractive to Scherzer.

If he is traded this season, it could be for a short-term, two-month rental. Scherzer, who is in the second year of a three-year, $130 million contract, has an opt-out after this season.

Scherzer is 9-4 with a 4.01 ERA in 19 starts and 107 2/3 innings pitched this season.
